BOATTRACKER / COVERAGE AND POWER

Understand signal and power aboard.

Tracking depends on a supported power supply, a GPS fix and mobile service. A steel hull, weak signal or sleeping device changes when reports arrive.

Mobile signal carries reports

The tracker needs a supported network to send data. Canal cuttings, remote moorings and a steel cabin may affect reception.

GNSS finds the position

A network connection alone does not prove a fresh position. Check the fix timestamp and actual installation.

Power keeps the chain alive

Routine reports depend on a safe dependable supply. Internal backup has limits and needs measured testing.

Two clocks.
One clearer picture.

Last contact tells you when the tracker last reached the service. Last fix tells you when a position was obtained.

A buffered report may arrive later. The original event time stays visible, so a delayed report never pretends to be a new movement.
